Tea Through The Ages

Camellia sinensis, or the common tea plant, was initially cultivated around 400 CE, after wild varieties made their way from India to China. A tea plant is actually an evergreen tree capable of growing to a height of 50 feet. However, the domesticated plant is pruned to bush size and maintained at a height of five feet. After growing from three to five feet, the leaves are ready to be harvested to make tea. Teapots were not immediately used after the introduction of tea leaves. Beginning around 800 CE, tea leaves were hand-rolled, dehydrated, and then ground into a powder. Initially, this powder was mixed with salt and shaped into cakes which would be dropped into bowls of hot water to create a thick mixture. In the course of time, the powder was left in its loose form, to be combined in a bowl with boiling water and whisked into a froth. The early days of the Ming Dynasty 1368-1644 in China brought popularity to the leaf infusion as we now know it. The earliest prototypes...

When All Else Fails, The Bench Press Is Always A Reliable Exercise.

The bench press is an exercise in which the lifter lies on his her back on a weight bench, lowering the bar directly above the chest. It is intended for the development of the chest, or pectoral muscles , frontal shoulders, serratus, but a variation exists for the triceps. In weight lifting , however, where the focus is to achieve a single very heavy repetition, the force for a bench exercise is exerted by both the pectoral and tricep muscles. The heaviest raw benchraising without equipment such as denim shirts is 713 lbs 324kg by Scott Mendelson. Many people regard this as a greater achievement than Rychlak?s 1005 lb press...

Easy Memory Techniques For Remembering Names

The world memory champion can memorize 170 names and faces in 15 minutes. Yet many people cannot recall a single name thirty seconds after hearing it. If we stay conservative for a moment and assume that remembering 170 names is the best people will ever be able to do, it should still be a piece of cake to remember one name of a person who just introduced herself to you three minutes ago. All too often the name slips out of the mind, even after you ask for it the second time around. Then a week later you see her walking down the street and you want to call out and say hi. Except there is no name in your mind. I used to devise clever strategies for finding out the name second and third time around without asking for it directly: - Let me see the photo on your driver s license. - So, how do your close friends call you. - You have an unusual name, how do you pronounce it. and hope she doesn t say Kate - What do they call you in this country. works well with foreigners - Hang...

Good Health Is A Habit - Get Your Dose!

Good, or bad, habits are easily formed. Initially it is about making a conscious choice, then letting the automatic pilot take over and execute the outcomes. As a naturopath, I happily live by the good health principles. In fact, it was my passion and everyday commitment to good health that resulted in me becoming a healthcare professional. You would be forgiven for thinking that eating healthily is boring. But let me tempt you otherwise Is it true that nothing has any meaning except the meaning that you attach to it. A world-class athlete, for example, will consider their diet and daily training as a stepping-stone to their ultimate goal and fulfilment. An over-weight couch potato would consider this routine excruciatingly painful and depriving them of their gustatory pleasures. So let me ask you where you stand in relation to your health. If you have a poor relationship with health you will find it harder to attract good health. Like attracts like in thought as well so...
